The latest offering from Toshiba by way of a laptop is the Portege Z20t and it is going up against the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and the Yoga line up from Lenovo. The laptop will be aimed at business users and it offers an amazing battery life of 17 hours, has a fanless design and a premium look.

The Portege Z20t is very versatile as it can be used as both a laptop and tablet. The 12.5 inch display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080p with a 176ppi density, a little off the 216ppi of the Surface Pro 2. However, the display should be adequate for the majority of users. It doubles up as an IPS panel which means the viewing angles should be pretty good.

One thing that many people look for when choosing a portable laptop or any other device is how long it will last on battery. This is where the Portege Z20t comes into its own as the battery life is said to be 9.1 hours when it is in tablet mode and when docked onto the keyboard this is boosted to an amazing 17.4 hours. It features an Intel Core M processor, which helps with the battery life and at the same time allows for a fanless design that is almost silent.

The Portege Z20t supports up to 10 touch points and comes with support for the Wacom digitizer pen, which has 2, 048 points of sensitivity. The keyboard is detachable and is resistant to spillages along with being LED backlit. This naturally boosts the weight of the device in tablet mode; in fact it doubles it from 1.6lb to 3.3lb.

The convertible laptop has a magnesium alloy finish in black and comes in a choice of 128GB or 256GB internal storage, with either 4GB or 8GB. It also has support for 802.11ac wireless along with Bluetooth 4.0. When used as a tablet it features microUSB, microHDMI and MicroSD. Connectivity choices include RGB, HDMI, two USB ports and Gigabit Ethernet.

Another bonus to the convertible is that the hinge is reversible and this means that the keyboard can also double up as a stand, which makes it great for watching movies or showing off presentations. The Toshiba Portege Z20t will be coming out at some point this month and the starting price will come in at US$1, 399. Toshiba are also making the device available as a standalone tablet and minus the keyboard/dock and digitizer stylus it comes in at $899. The latter will be available from February this year.
