Paragraf is looking for people with thin film growth experience and epitaxy to help them take forward their R&D activities and achieve novel, transformational technology aspirations.

Being a spin-out from the Department of Materials Science at Cambridge University, Paragraf aims to develop and exploit an innovative approach to novel materials development and production, and subsequently the research and development of novel technologies based on their new materials portfolio.

Responsibilities:

  • Development of new thin film materials growth techniques and processes
  • Production of graphene, semiconductor and two-dimensional material layers and structures
  • Delivery of required materials and thin film structures into technology projects and products
  • Management of the material production and testing schedules
  • Compile updates for management review teams
  • Document and implement R&D practices, approaches and policies
  • Preparing project updates for internal meetings
  • Helping to maintain and grow R&D facility and capabilities
  • Analyzing, documenting and recording results in accordance with company processes & procedures
Qualifications:
  • Strong applied, hands-on experimental capabilities
  • Significant experience of R&D material deposition techniques with first-hand knowledge of at least one semiconductor production mechanism (eg, PVD, CVD, MBE, ALD, etc.)
  • Knowledge of materials development for device applications and device processing techniques
  • Highly proactive with a considered and organized approach to tasks
  • Qualification to Ph.D. level in a relevant subject, or degree paired with suitable experience
  • Capability to grasp scientific concepts quickly and apply them to your own work
  • Ability to reflect, learn from mistakes and respond positively to feedback
  • Ability to handle several on-going tasks and prioritize to organize own workload
  • Capability to work autonomously and make considered decisions

Advantageous Skills:

  • Background in materials characterization techniques, for example, Raman spectroscopy AFM, Hall, PL, SEM, XRD, XPS and analysis of results allowing formulation of definitive conclusions
  • Hands-on cleanroom experience with equipment including, electron-beam deposition, thermal evaporation deposition, lithography, reactive wet and dry etching
  • Understanding of two-dimensional materials, technologies, device and applications
  • Exposure to solid-state device design
  • Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams
