Imagine sitting at a sushi restaurant watching your favorite food prepared by a chef through a see-through screen while placing your order or watching videos on that same screen. Imagine sitting on your bed enjoying your favorite film while being able to see the rest of the room. Imagine being on the subway looking out the window at the views while also reading important information about your ride.
This is what LG Display's latest transparent OLEDs offer.
"Transparent OLED is a technology that maximizes the advantages of OLED and can be used in various places in our daily lives, from stores, shopping malls, and architectural interiors to autonomous vehicles, subway trains, and aircraft," said Jong-sun Park, Senior Vice President & Head of the Commercial Business Unit at LG Display. He added, "It will grow into a next-generation display that can change the existing display paradigm."
LG Display's 55-inch Transparent OLED display offers 40% transparency compared to the existing transparent LCD with only 10% transparency. This new and improved transparency offers many benefits.
A Smart Bed
LG Display uses as an example a Smart Bed that allows users to sleep and relax in front of an entertaining screen that allows them to browse and watch their favorite content without hiding what else is going on in the room. This seems especially ideal if you have kids or pets.
This new screen also comes equipped with immersive Cinematic Sound OLED (CSO) embedded in the frame. This means that no external speakers are required.
Finally, the Smart Bed display's movable frame can easily be transported to other rooms of the house bringing entertainment and clear views anywhere you choose to go. The new screen and Smart Bed will both be showcased at CES 2021 and we must admit we are excited to give them a try.
