How to Make Your Shoes Look Brand New

Many of us have our favorite pair of shoes, but when you wear them all the time, they are bound to get dirty and start looking worn out. Instead of throwing out that expensive pair of shoes, why not spend a little time and clean them up? All you will need is a little sodium bicarbonate or baking soda, a toothbrush, vinegar, a small bowl with water, and of course, dirty shoes! Keep reading for a step-by-step walkthrough of the cleaning technique.

It is important not to forget about the laces on your shoes. If your laces stay dirty, it can make the cleanest of shoes look old and worn out. You will want to take the laces off of your shoes, and place them in a bowl filled with water to soak. If your laces are too worn out to save, you can pick up a new pair from the store for just a couple of bucks.

After the laces are removed, you can start pretreating the shoes. All it takes to prepare the white shoes for cleaning is running them under some cold water, making sure to get ever nook and cranny wet and ready for scrubbing.

Cold water will help the stains be removed when you start scrubbing with a toothbrush. It doesn't have to be too cold though, running your shoes under a cold faucet will work just fine.

Now that your shoes are nice and wet, you will want to get your vinegar and baking soda out so you can make a cleaning paste. You can mix it with your hand, or maybe use a spoon, but you will want to form it into a viscous paste. Don't add too much baking soda at once, these ingredients react to create carbon dioxide, and your bowl could overflow if you aren't careful.

Once your paste is made, start scrubbing away with that toothbrush! It shouldn't take too much work until you start seeing your stains fading away. The same technique can be used on your dirty shoelaces. If it doesn't work as well, try covering them in the paste and letting them sit for a little while.

Once you are done cleaning your shoes, give them a quick rinse with cold water again, and they will look good as new! Once you have let them dry, you can re-lace them and start wearing them again.
