Samsung has created a special version of the Galaxy S20 made purely for the U.S. Military: the Tactical Edition.
It's a hardened version of the smartphone and looks as though it could withstand a tank rolling over it, which it probably can. But don't get your hopes up on snagging one for yourself, as it's only available for the military, specifically the U.S. one.
A rugged phone for rugged situations
Just like the regular Galaxy S20, the Tactical Edition has a 6.2-inch 1440p display panel, a Snapdragon 865 processor, 12 GB of RAM, 128 GB of expandable storage, a 4,000mAh battery, and the usual number of cameras on the front and back of the phone.
The main difference in the smartphone's build is that it's encrypted twice, making it strong enough to deal with top-secret data and information, connections to tactical radios, and mission systems.
The system has also been adapted for ease of use in military situations. For instance, one mode can turn the display on or off while wearing night-vision goggles, and a stealth mode switches off the LTE and mutes all RF broadcasts to close off any eavesdropping issues.
The phone can also easily be unlocked in landscape mode so that any app can be quickly launched with the smartphone attached to the chest of any military person.
The cases that go with the phone are hardcore and look the military part. One has a thick frame to guard all corners of the device, while the other looks like a flip-case of sorts. It's certainly a great leap forward compared to this older military grade phone case.
The Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition isn't quite yet ready to hit the military racks, and will only go on sale in the third quarter of this year from "select IT channel partners".
