What are some great examples of spaceship-inspired interior design and furniture?

So, without further ado, here are some great examples of spaceship and sci-fi inspired interior design features and furniture. Trust us when we say this list is far from exhaustive and is in no particular order.

1. Check out these spaceship themed stairs

If you are looking for some great spaceship-themed interior design ideas, you can't go wrong with these amazing stairs. Resembling the entry ramp to a futuristic, almost organic spaceship, this staircase is something very novel and fresh.

We do wonder if the designer was a fan of the sci-fi classic "The Flight of the Navigator"? Perhaps with a little metallic or chrome paint would polish off the design?

We'll let you decide.

2. This rocket table is fantastic

Here is another spaceship-inspired piece of interior design. By replacing traditional legs with launching rockets, the final table is something very special indeed.

This table would make a great addition to any spaceship inspired home. But a more critical eye might be disappointed by the missing nose cones four of the supports.

It might be cooler to just have the central rocket stand? Or perhaps there is some hidden meaning behind the design?

The designer may be trying to suggest that only the central rocket mission was successful? We may never know.

3. This panorama wouldn't look out of place on a spaceship!

"Your Rainbow Panorama" designed by Olafur Eliasson, is yet another example of a spaceship-themed interior to blow your mind. Installed at the ARoS Aarhus Kuntstmuseum in Denmark in 2011, this is a truly stunning piece of architectural design.

Most Popular

"In 2007 Eliasson and his studio won an invited architectural competition with a proposal to transform the rooftop of ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, in Denmark, which was built by Schmidt Hammer Lassen architects. Installed in 2011, Your rainbow panorama offers visitors sweeping views of the city, the sky, and the distant horizon. The elevated 360-degree walkway Your rainbow panorama is 150 meters around and glazed with rainbow-colored glass." - Olafur Eliasson

Incorporating different tones of glass (hence the name) around the exterior of the walkway, visitors view change as they walk around it. It is not hard to imagine something similar to an observation deck on an interstellar spaceship cruising through deep space.

4. This office is completely spaceship-themed

Designed by Ezzo Design, the offices for Game Studio 2o is a science fiction fan's dream. The entire interior of their office in Timisoara, Romania is something that needs to be seen to be believed.

This is a truly unique office design that any Star Trek, Star Wars, or more appropriately, Red Dwarf fan would simply love to work in. The staff probably wouldn't even notice the hours ticking by as the labored in this amazing workspace.

"It definitely is a lot better than spending six hours a day stuck in the same old boring cubicle! Inspired by science fiction and adopting a theme of ‘spaceship invaded by nature’, the office has a green and sustainable side to it as well." - Decoist.com

5. The interior of the Boeing 737-800 is pretty futuristic

If you have traveled on a Boeing 737-800 recently, you might have noticed the futuristic design of its cabin. Of course, passenger aircraft interior design has always been ripe for pushing the boundaries of interior design, but the Boeing 737-800 has certainly taken it to the next level.

However, it should be noted this can only be seen on "The Sky" variants of the aircraft. The design is not only aesthetically stunning, but it also has a cunning purpose.

"In response to customer surveys, Boeing has come up with the most dramatic improvement to the cabin of a single-aisle airliner. The Sky interior comprises design improvements that give a much greater impression of space than the standard offering. New larger stowage bins allow for more carry on baggage whilst at the same time being less obtrusive as they sweep up to the ceiling. Not only are the luggage bins less obtrusive but they are actually larger inside than the previous versions." - Modern Airliners

6. The Jewel Waterfall at Jewel Changi Airport, Singapore looks like a biodome from a spaceship

Apart from the central waterfall, the center of Terminal 1 at Jewel Changi Airport, Singapore wouldn't look out of place in a sci-fi film. This is especially true if you have ever watched the sci-fi classic "Silent Running."

To be fair, the same could be said for any glazed dome structure of this kind, but this design is particularly sci-fi looking.

"It first began with the need to expand the capacity of Changi Airport’s Terminal 1 as well as its open-air carpark. This led to a strategic vision with the conception of Jewel as a gem of a destination, to augment Changi Airport’s position as a leading air hub globally and boost its appeal as a stopover destination for travelers.

The stunning result is a mixed-use development with gardens, attractions, retail, dining, a hotel and facilities to support airport operations. This integration of nature with engineering marvels housed under a striking glass and steel dome is poised to make headlines." - Jewel Changi Airport

The building won the 2016 International Architecture Award as well as other awards including the MIPIM Asia Awards 2016: Best Futura Project. We can see why.

7. This Art Deco office entrance is amazing

And finally, this incredible Art Deco office entrance in London would look amazing in a cyber-punk-themed spaceship. Designed and built-in around 1930, it is an amazing piece of architectural design from a time gone by.

With most futuristic design concentrated on minimizing embellishment of this kind, it is interesting to see how past generations thought the future of architectural design should look. The Art Deco movement, in particular, emerged during a time of massive technological change that is not too dissimilar to our modern times.

Especially as we teeter ever closer to civilian space travel
