NASA Reveals Glimpse of New SpaceX Astronaut Suits

Astronauts may not be flying onboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon until next year, but that does not mean they are not practicing for what is to come. Lucky for us, these tests include experiments where the astronauts have to wear the full SpaceX gear.

NASA recently shared images of astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley going through their "suit-up procedures" at SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California and the spacesuits did not disappoint. Of course, trying on their new suits is not all these astronauts did.

"The training provided an opportunity for the integrated team to dry run all of the activities, procedures and communication that will be exercised on launch day when a Crew Dragon spacecraft launches on a Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A in Florida," said NASA's statement.

SpaceX's Crew Dragon and Boeing's Starliner are the two crafts selected by NASA for its Commercial Crew Program. SpaceX's Demo-2 mission to the International Space Station was set to take place in July.

However, the dates were pushed back after a test Crew Dragon exploded during a ground test in April. "Earlier today, SpaceX conducted a series of engine tests on a Crew Dragon test vehicle on our test stand at Landing Zone 1 in Cape Canaveral, Florida," a SpaceX spokesperson had said.

"The initial tests completed successfully but the final test resulted in an anomaly on the test stand. Ensuring that our systems meet rigorous safety standards and detecting anomalies like this prior to flight are the main reasons why we test. Our teams are investigating and working closely with our NASA partners."
