Stunning transformation of Manhattan micro loft

Specht Harpman Architects were given the job of taking a space of 425 feet and making it look spacious, which is something of a big task. What was once an awkward space in an apartment in New York was transformed into a stunning micro loft at the top of a building six storeys tall.

The architects were able to create what they termed 'living platforms' that could accommodate everything apartment dwellers would need and at the same time it's kept the space open and bright. They had the task of working with a vertical space of 24 feet and this made it possible for the designers to create rooms in multiple layers.

There is a compact bathroom on the bottom floor hidden away under the stair case for example.

With the kitchen being airy in white and being of an open plan design to the living room.

The countertops along with the cupboards were designed in white to give the space a bright feel. The designers kept details down to simple levels and this helped to give the appearance of the kitchen being larger than it actually is.

No part of the space is wasted as even the space under the stairs doesn't go to waste as it plays home to storage.

The first set of stairs leads to the bedroom space and this seems to float above the living area below it.

The staircase once again has been put to use for storage, with the staircase leading up to the next layer which is the roof garden.

The staircase was designed to be simple without any chunky balusters which give the space its clean, bright and airy looks.
