Tesla and SpaceX CEO, billionaire, innovator, cryptocurrency influencer, restauranteur — could all of these terms describe Elon Musk? It's looking more and more likely Musk will be able to add that last one to his CV soon.
On May 25, Tesla filed a new trademark for its brand to use its "T" logo design and other "Tesla" logos in the food industry. This might be a clear sign that the automaker is readying itself to deliver on an idea Musk had back in 2018 when he said he wanted to transform his future LA Tesla Supercharging station to include an old school drive-in, and roller skates, and rock restaurant.
The idea was brought back into the loop on April 2 this year, when Musk took to Twitter — his favorite platform — to joyfully state "Major new supercharger station coming to Santa Monica soon! Hoping to have 50's diner & 100 best movie clips playing too. Thanks, Santa Monica city!"

The recent triple trademark filing is a clear sign of Musk and Tesla's interest in the restaurant game, but it's not yet been approved. The trademark covers the categories of "restaurant services, pop-up restaurant services, self-service restaurant services, take-out restaurant services," so Tesla has some leeway to play with if and when it does build nostalgic, old-school diners and skater restaurants.
It isn't such a far-fetched idea given gas stations and highway rest stops have historically also been lined with fast-food restaurants or 7-Eleven convenience stores where drivers and passengers can replenish their grumbling stomachs with tasty snacks and drinks. So why not give those dining spots a Tesla twist?
