Tesla Model 3 Performance Destroys a Ferrari 458 in a Drag

A Tesla is undeniably quick off the mark.

A Tesla Model 3 Performance has beaten a Ferrari 458 in a 1/8-mile drag race. The Tesla had received the over-the-air Peak Power Increase update from Tesla which boosted its peak power by about 5%. Model 3’s who received the update got a nice top speed increase of about 10 km/h or 7 mph.

The Ferrari 458 is both a handsome and quick car. It has a naturally aspirated V8 engine that is widely thought to be one of the best sounding V8 ever produced. Launched back in 2009 the 458 has been given rave reviews by all sorts of people across the industry. However, there is one thing that Ferrari does as well as design great cars and that is produces great price tags.

Tesla crushes expensive Ferrari

The 458 starts at a breathtaking $239,340 with the price rising for other variants like the 458 Speciale. The Model 3, on the other hand, can cost as little as $35,00 and increasing. When the two cars go head to head, it seems no one expected the Tesla to cross the line first, but it did just that.

The black Tesla is absolutely the first off the mark and despite the best effort form the Ferrari the win never seems in doubt According to the owner of the video the Model 3 Performance ran the 1/8 mile in 7.4 seconds, beating the Ferrari 458, which crossed the 1/8-mile mark in 7.6 seconds.

Musk fans are insatiable

Tesla’s are very fast cars. A model 3 even without the Peak Power boasts a 0-60 mph time of just 3.2 seconds. The car also has the very cool Track Mode feature, which allows the vehicle to run multiple laps around a closed circuit without losing power. In track mode, a Model 3 was able to match the performance of a 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 around the “Streets” of Willow Springs International Raceway in CA. Not bad for a family sedan.

Many observers will note that over a longer distance the Ferrari would no doubt have caught up and overtaken the Tesla, but who cares? It's fun to watch a significantly cheaper and arguably less cool car take the Italian stallion down a notch. If watching Tesla’s set records and do other weird stuff is your thing, there is an inevitable cavalcade of content on YouTube.

Tesla owners seem to be a particular breed of social media obsessed car nerds. If you can think of something it's probably been done. Think towing trucks and turning your car into a sauna.

Tesla owners are also keen to prove the car maker right when it comes to statistics. Don’t believe your Tesla will really reach its range? Watch another tesla fan do it! All these Tesla stunts do come with the warning though that breaking the conditions of your warranty will result in a bad outcome.
