Social media app TikTok's parent company ByteDance has acquired Chinese smartphone company Smartisan and has now released its very first smartphone. Called the Smartisan Jianguo Pro 3, which translates as the Nut Pro 3, the device is a stylish phone that some are already claiming is the best camera phone around.
The device comes with four rear cameras: a 48MP main camera, a 13MP snapper, an 8MP telephoto for zoomed-in shots, and a 5MP macro for close-up pictures. It has a fifth 20MP selfie camera in the front.
All of the cameras are high quality and Bytedance claims they are powered by several post-processing algorithms that automatically fix common picture-taking flaws. It also features a 6.39-inch display, a Snapdragon 855 Plus processor, and 8GB of RAM.
Before you get too excited, it should be noted that the phone is only available in China for now. This is too bad because at 2,899 CNH ($412) it is a pretty good price for such a high-end phone.
The phone is integrated with the Tik Tok app which means you can directly open its Chinese version, DouYin, by just swiping up from the lock screen. Since its launch in China in 2016, TikTok has amassed more than 500 million users worldwide.
And it has the competition worried. A leaked recording from a Facebook company meeting revealed CEO Mark Zuckerberg had a “plan of attack” for dealing with TikTok, reported The Independent.
“I think it’s past Instagram now in India in terms of scale. So yeah, it’s a very interesting phenomenon,” Zuckerberg said.
“So we have a number of approaches that we’re going to take towards this, and we have a product called Lasso that’s a standalone app that we’re working on, trying to get product market fit in countries like Mexico, is I think one of the first initial ones.”
