Tesla is known for its trial and error approach to the engineering matters, and most recently, a travel agent from England, Jason Tuatara, got a handful of his Model 3 when the steering wheel of his brand-new car fell into his hands.
@elonmusk Steering wheel fell of today! Concerned that the rest of the car will fall to bits too! Can this be looked into as to why it’s happened to a car just over 1 month old! #TeslaServiceIssues pic.twitter.com/w103imxnbA

Apparently, he was just reversing onto his driveway when the steering wheel "just fell off." He was quick to make it public by tweeting about it: "@elonmusk steering wheel fell off today! Concerned the rest of the car will fall to bits too! Can this be looked into as to why it’s happened to a car just over 1 month old! #TeslaServiceIssues." on April 26.

Reportedly, he and his partner had gotten the car on March 20th; however, they weren't able to drive it much due to the coronavirus lockdown, New York Post reports.
On the day the accident happened, Tuatara explained that they had driven around 20 miles. He said, "Luckily, the [accident] happened at the end of our trip. It was literally hanging by wires in my hand. I was in complete shock."
After getting in touch with Tesla, his car was collected within 90 minutes, and a one-year-old Jaguar was loaned to him as a replacement, which, evidently, was all the company had at that moment. Apparently, the company's representative was "very surprised to hear what had happened. The lady said she had never heard of this before."
Thankfully, the replacement was rather short since his Model 3 was returned to him the next day, with the steering wheel, hopefully, safely intact. Tuatara said, "Tesla confirmed that the steering wheel was not fixed to the body of the car with a bolt, and they are looking into what happened on production. The Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency here in the UK is also doing a full investigation."
