Some argue that pickups and SUVs aren't made how they used to be, and that they're a dying breed. It would certainly be a shame to see the end of the classic powerhouses.

Do trucks and SUVs have a place in the future, or will they increasingly be replaced by smaller vehicles aimed at urban mobility? While this is by no means an exhaustive list, here are some of our favorite trucks and SUVs we can remember from recent years.

1. Ford F-150

Ford's famous F-150 pickup truck is set to go all-electric. The iconic automaker recently released a video of their electric F-150 towing over a million pounds.

2. Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is an SUV classic. The 2019 Grand Cherokee adds a slew of safety features while retaining the sleek design.

3. Mercedes-Benz Unimog

The first version of the Mercedes-Benz Unimog actually appeared just after WWII. However, it has continually evolved to become the beast it is today. It used by the military, firefighters, and a whole load of other practical uses.

4. Chevrolet Colorado ZR2

The Colorado ZR2 is a great combination of midsize pickup maneuverability and advanced off-road technology. Nimble and at the same time ferocious.

5. Arrival's all-electric Royal Mail delivery trucks

This might not immediately stand out as a cool vehicle, but these all-electric Royal Mail delivery trucks, designed after the UK government claimed that petrol and diesel cars will be banned from 2040, hark back to an iconic British aesthetic.

6. Rivian R1T

Rivian has long been touted as a Tesla killer. Rivian's R1T even has a pull-out kitchen option — touché.

7. General Motor's Hummer

A classic of power and distinctive design, the Hummer has recently gone electric, with General Motors announcing at the beginning of this year that they were making an EV version.

8. Volvo FL Electric

The Volvo FL Electric has the capacity for a vehicle weight of 16 tons. It's makes relatively little noise meaning its great for urban mobility.

9. Land Rover Rugby World Cup Special Edition

This special edition of the Land Rover was designed to take the Rugby World Cup on a 100-day tour around the UK along with Ireland, showing the Webb Ellis Cup through a glass enclosure.

10. Ford SVT Raptor

Did you know very first production Ford Raptor sold at auction for $130,000? The very capable off-roader is one of the world's most wanted pickups.

11. FAUN Trackway

We're not all about aesthetics here at IE. There's something to be said for functionality, and this cool truck, the FAUN Trackway that can lay 50 meters of track in 6 minutes has it in spades.

12. This restored 1961 Chevy pickup truck

This impressive Chevy pickup truck was restored by Honda in order to pay tribute to the automaker's 60th year in the U.S.

13. Daimler's autonomous slow plow trucks

What was it we said about functionality? These Daimler snow plow trucks are so efficient they're used to clear runways.

14. Chevrolet S-10

Though it might not be as popular as other models like the Ford Ranger, the Chevrolet S-10 was the first domestically built pickup of the big three automakers in the U.S.

Mini and pickup truck are two words you probably thought you'd never see together. And yet, this modded Mini pickup with a twin-turbo Audi V8 engine is real and its a sight to behold.

Another company trying to take Tesla's claim to the throne, Nikola recently unveiled its 600-mile-range electric pickup truck, the Nikola Badger

17. This modded Mercedes-Benz X-Class EXY 6×6

Polish company Carlex Design transformed the Mercedes-Benz X-Class into this beast of a 6×6 pickup truck.

18. Mercedes-Benz Zetros

The Mercedes-Benz Zetros isn't just a capable off-road vehicle, it's also a luxury mobile home

19. Toyota Tacoma

The Toyota Tacoma is a mid-sized pickup that started its life as a compact truck in 1995. The 2009 version came with a 4.0L V6 engine.

20. Dodge Ram SRT-10

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 has an 8.3L V10 Viper engine and produces 500 horsepower. With a top speed of 154 mph, this pickup was built for speed.

UPS secretly delivered mail for months with its autonomous TuSimple-made trucks before announcing it to the world.

22. Tesla Semi

While this hasn't been released yet, we already have some pretty tangible information. The in-development Tesla Semi is an all-electric battery-powered Class 8 semi-truck. Recent reports suggest the truck could reach a range as high as 600 miles.

Love it or hate it, the Tesla Cybertruck definitely got people talking with its jagged, unusual design and its not-so-shatterproof windows. Could it signal a future of design, or will it just be a passing fad?
