Charge Cars, a British startup, has decided to convert 499 first-generation Ford Mustangs into powerful electric vehicles. By combining a classic design with EV tech, this might be the greatest vehicular mash-up of all time.

What exactly is Charge Cars doing?
British startup Charge Cars is setting out to restore and customize classic cars as EVs, beginning with the 1960s classic, the Ford Mustang. Based out of London, the company specializes in the development of luxury and high-performance vehicles and their team includes engineers who have work on various motorsport companies such as F1, McLaren Automotive, and Jaguar Land Rover.
They also work closely with a leading EV tech company Arrival and tire extraordinaire Michelin.
They plan on taking 499 shells of this legendary car and combine them with an electric drivetrain. Of course, they won't be scavenging classic Mustang shells, rather they plan to build new ones under license from Ford.
But, unlike most electric vehicles, these Mustangs are to built for pure driving pleasure in mind rather than economy. Charge Cars plan for this series of EV Mustangs to be fun and good for the environment.
Each car will come complete with a 64-kilowatt-hour battery that can be charged in under an hour. If you can restrain yourself, this should be enough charge to travel about 200 miles (321 km).
But, it must be noted, efficient driving is not the main purpose of these new Mustangs.
Why would you want an EV Mustang?
The main point of these new EV Mustangs is to have fun, not save pennies on fuel. Each model will come with a 536 HP, quad-motor, all-wheel-drive system, whose torque output at the wheels will be 5,532 pound-feet (7500 Nm).
That's a ton of power, and it will be enough to go from 0-60 in less than 4 seconds! The new EV Mustangs will also have a top speed of 149 mph (240 kph).
Each and every EV Mustang will also come with all- and rear-wheel-drive options as standard. Drivers can switch between modes with the simple tap of a button using its central touchscreen.
By all accounts, its impressive acceleration is smooth and comfortable too.
How much will the new EV Mustangs cost?
As you can imagine, building a new Mustang chassis and fitting it with an electric drivetrain does not come cheap. Charge Cars says its EV Mustangs start at £300,000, which is around $381,000.
"Its price point and workmanship are presumably the reasons why this electric Mustang will make its public debut in the Michelin Supercar Paddock at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed," says The Drive.
If this has "whetted your appetite" you can reserve one for yourself. According to the company's website, they plan to begin shipping completed cars in September 2019.
