Rumors of an electric Ferrari have been circulating for a few years now, and these have been brought once again to the forefront of the car world with a leaked patent filing.

It appears that an electric Ferrari could be in our midst in 2025.

Chief Executive of Ferrari, Louis Camilleri, disclosed in December that the car company would be pushing back its initial date for an electric Ferrari from 2022 to after 2025. The claim was that its battery technology had to be developed further.

The year of the luxury Italian carmaker's future electric vehicle keeps moving around. At first, it was due to launch an electric version in 2022, then analysts believed it wouldn't be until 2023, then Camilleri moved it to after 2025, and now CleanTechnica's statement says it will be arriving by 2025.

The latest news by CleanTechnica stated that a patent filing with plans for the electric vehicle was leaked, and the date showed that the electric Ferrari will be with us by 2025

In December Camilleri stated that "There are still significant issues in terms of autonomy, in terms of speed of recharging. So eventually we will come out with one. But it’s post-2025. Not in the short term."

Ferrari plans to have 60% of its cars as hybrids by 2022. This could well still be possible given the release of the carmaker's first hybrid car in series production last year, the SF 90 Stradale

As Camilleri stated "We are looking at various powertrains and trying to see what would be the most efficient and effective in terms of what our vision is for Ferrari cars in the future."

We can expect many of Ferrari's future cars to be electric or hybrid. We'll just have to wait for the official announcements from the company as to when exactly they'll be ready. For now, it looks like the mark is near 2025.
