Maserati Unveils New Engine Adapted From Formula 1 for MC20 Supercar
Maserati has long been regarded as an oddity of the Modena "motor valley". While it's fellow townsfolk Lamborghini, Pagani and Ferrari go for a proverbial arms race with supercars, Maserati has decided to cater to a more "grounded" luxury customer base. The result of this has been a consumer-car catalog resembling that of Aston Martin's but with a strait-laced touch.

Recently though, Maserati has been "leaking" photos from a new car project, MS20. September has been set as the global launch date for the car and it seems that the engine won't be Ferrari manufactured this time. At their Modena base engineers and technicians devised an all-new engine for their upcoming car, it has been 20 years since they last designed an in-house engine.

According to their press release, the engine "is a V90° architecture, with a 3-liter, 6-cylinder twin-turbo, and features a dry-sump (a classic solution on super sportscars). It delivers 630CV at 7500rpm and 730 Nm of torque from 3000rpm with a specific power output of 210CV/liter." Also, it has a compression ratio of 11 to 1 with a 3.22835 inch (82 mm) stroke and a 3.46457 inch (88 mm) bore.
The company also proudly announced that its engine will be the first consumer car that includes a pre-chamber combustion system featuring twin-spark plugs, a technology traditionally attributed to Formula 1 cars.
The three main features
The engine has three main features: The pre-chamber, lateral spark-plug, and the twin injection system.
The pre-chamber is a combustion chamber located between central electrode and the regular combustion chamber, it's connected by a set of special holes.
The lateral spark-plug is a supporting system that ensures uninterrupted combustion when the engine is operating at a low-level that doesn't require pre-chamber to be active
The direct/indirect twin injection system is a system that reduces noise low down on the rev range, which helps lower emissions and improves consumption.
