Mercedes-Benz showcased its exclusive, cabriolet model design at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event in California. The latest Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 fuses vintage "automotive haute couture" with futuristic technology and emission-free driving system. As well as its classic and futuristic features, the exclusive cabriolet has also been designed to perform as a sports car that can rev up from 0 to 60 mph in just 4 seconds.

Envisioning the future of luxury vehicles with the Mercedes-Maybach 6

Incorporating vintage aesthetics with next-generation technology seems to be the new trend nowadays for automakers of classic cars. We've recently seen the Nissan INFINITI Prototype 9 concept car unveiled at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance automotive event. And during the same car event in California, Mercedes-Benz introduced a similar concept classic-yet-technologically-advanced vehicle called the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet. The latest exclusive model by the German automobile manufacturer echoes the vintage automotive trend of hand-finished, luxury cabriolets.

Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG, explained how Mercedes-Benz's design strategy resulted in the new and exclusive cabriolet model.

"The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet takes modern luxury into the realms of the ultimate in luxury and is the perfect embodiment of our design strategy. Breathtaking proportions combined with a luxurious "haute couture" interior help to create the ultimate experience".

This sophisticated, hand-finished cabriolet is further accentuated, in terms of performance, with its electric engine design. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 is devised with an underfloor battery that provides a range of around 500 km and an output of 550 kW. The cabriolet's "four compact permanent magnet synchronous electric motors" gives it the power to rev up from 0 to 60 mph in just four seconds with a maximum speed of 155 mph.

Quick-charging is also deemed to be one of the Mercedes-Maybach 6's impressive attributes. The cabriolet can be plugged in and charge up for five minutes to gain an extra range of over 60 miles or around 100 km. Apart from the luxurious aesthetics and interior, the emission-free driving aspect of the Mercedes-Maybach 6 makes it an impressive and sustainable collectible.

Despite its vintage aesthetic design, the Mercedes-Maybach 6 is built with an intelligent system that can predict the needs of passengers and subsequently offers information and solutions in real-time. A Concierge function is also available, which allows passengers to naturally engage in a conversation without having to use predefined voice commands. Biometric sensors have been incorporated within the smart system to monitor the mental and physical health status of the people onboard the cabriolet.

As a visionary car, the Mercedes-Maybach 6's extensive length of 6 meters provides a "360° open-air luxury lounge". According to Mercedes-Benz, the luxury lounge ambiance of the modern cabriolet is achieved with its interior fixings and features.

"In the case of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet, this traditional seat upholstery boasts a futuristic interpretation: each individual button of the quilting depicts a delicate Mercedes star, backlit in blue. The open-pore wood floor with inlaid aluminum underscores the lounge sensation and the connection to yachting".
