When you first buy a new car you can't help but be really excited. It's shiny, it's fast, it's powerful. Now imagine you just bought Porsche's latest EV Taycan, to say you'd be excited may be the understatement of the year.

So you can easily picture one of the Taycan's most recent owner's absolute dismay upon realizing their new EV was caught up in a blaze in their garage

What happened to the Porsche Taycan?

Sadly, the entire EV sportscar burnt to a crisp in Southern Florida on February 16th. Absolutely nothing was left of the vehicle or much of the garage surrounding it.

Luckily, no one was hurt during the fire.

It's not entirely certain what took place, as little detail of what happened is yet available. Images of the aftermath are going around different social media sites, and that's mostly all there is to see at the moment.

"We were made aware of an incident at a residential address where one of our cars was parked overnight late on the 16th of February. The formal investigation has begun and we remain ready to assist if called upon. We are relieved to hear that no one was harmed in this incident," Porsche spokesperson Calvin Kim told Car and Driver.

Kim continued, "It's too early to speculate on the cause until the investigation has concluded."

Electrek was also told by Kim that this is the first reported instance of a Taycan going on fire.

Sadly, this may start a wave of wagging fingers against electric vehicles or non-Tesla EVs. It's become a talking point with a number of anti-EVers, and even Tesla lovers.

However, it has to be said that cars going ablaze is no new matter. Gasoline-running cars have been catching on fire for decades. However, as the EV industry is still relatively new and under intense scrutiny, it's quite normal for them to receive the limelight when such unfortunate moments occur.
