This Classic Jaguar XK120 Goes Fully-Electric
There is no doubt that classic cars are beautiful to look at but this is where their charm ends. In all other areas, such as fuel-efficiency and performance, they lag far behind today's models.
But what if you could have the sleek design of a classic car with the latest fully electric engine? That is what the people at Lunaz design have achieved.
Now, we bring you more of their work: the electrification of a Jaguar XK120.
"One of the most significant examples of Britain’s performance car heritage is given a bold new dimension in dynamism and usability through conversion to full electric. The Jaguar XK120 is a true driver’s classic that can be enjoyed every day. We build XK120, XK140 and XK150's in both fixed head and drophead configurations," states the firm's website.
The site does not offer any specifications however founder David Lorenz did give an interview to Road and Track where he described the car in detail.
“I just love so many of these cars and I want to future proof them. So the whole platform was built with set criteria. No range anxiety. The smallest battery pack I wanted to put into these vehicles was 80 kilowatt," said Lorenz. "I basically set criteria on the cars. This has a twin motor with 516 lb-ft of torque and the equivalent of 375 horsepower. And the brakes, suspension… everything upgraded around that.”
Lorenz aims to keep the cars as close to their original form as possible. He therefore restores and keeps seats, panels, and whatever else is salvageable.
At the moment, this Jaguar XK120 that belongs to Lorenz is the only Lunaz out on the road but it's not hard to imagine a future where a lot more of these vehicles are made and ridden.
