This accidental battery breakthrough may revolutionize the energy storage industry
Energy storage is the key to renewables. Without it, we can't move forward with clean energy.
For now, we have been focusing on lithium-ion. But that's not the only player in the game.
Lithium-sulfur batteries have been touted as the ultimate in energy storage however a technical complication has been holding back their widespread adoption until now. A new accidental discovery may finally unlock their full potential and YouTuber Matt Ferrell is here to tell us all about it.
A group of researchers from Drexel University has finally made a breakthrough in lithium-sulfur batteries, which is great considering what abundant and easy-to-access resource sulfur is. If this breakthrough proves successful we may have a much more fruitful and manageable alternative to lithium-ion batteries.
Lithium-sulfur batteries could also achieve up to eight times more energy density than their lithium counterparts. Now, that's no small achievement.
So what did the Drexel researchers discover? How does it related to the production of lithium-sulfur batteries? What does the future hold for energy storage? How likely is it that we will indeed see widespread use of lithium-sulfur batteries? This video answers all these questions and more.
