YouTuber The Action Lab always brings us fun and exciting science experiments and explanation that both tantalize and educate. You may remember this episode when he made a laser microscope using just a drop of water or this one when he made a black mirror.
In this clip, he explains how the anti-gravity wheel works. It's most often used to show the conversion between potential energy and kinetic energy.
It consists of a base with two strings holding up a wheel with a rod going through it. The strings are strategically placed on both sides of the rod, allowing the wheel to hang freely.
If you wind up the strings in order to get the wheel all the way to the top of the base, the wheel unravels by itself and continues to wind up again, going from the top position back down and up again. This is because the potential energy of the wheel gets converted into rotational energy.
The only reason it ever stops winding up and unraveling is that some of the energy gets converted to frictional energy. What does this experiment illustrate? What can other experiments be conducted with an anti-gravity wheel? This video answers all these questions and more.
