The news of the Antonov An-225 "Mriya", the biggest cargo plane in the world, being destroyed by the Russian army during the conflicts at the Antonov Airfield near Kyiv, Ukraine, has devastated individuals in the aviation world, where it holds a near cult-like reputation.

"The biggest plane in the world "Mriya" (The Dream) was destroyed by Russian occupants on an airfield near Kyiv. We will rebuild the plane. We will fulfill our dream of a strong, free, and democratic Ukraine," reads a tweet from the official Ukraine Twitter account.

The plane was being repaired at Antonov Airport at the time of the invasion, thus there was no way to get it out of Ukraine. After the destruction, its restoration is expected to cost more than $3 billion and take a very long time.

The An-225 is a relic of the Cold War era aircraft that was built in Ukraine. In this video by the YouTube channel Spark, you can discover more about the biggest airplane in the world, which holds the most air records for freight lift.
