AT&T predicted the future in these 1993 ads with surprising accuracy

It wasn't just guesswork.
Derya Ozdemir

Back in 1993, AT&T aired a series of short TV commercials with the theme "You Will", which were all about what people will be doing in the future. The videos showed AT&T's vision for how technology would fundamentally impact the way people live, work, and interact. However, unlike most futuristic concepts, they were surprisingly realistic, and most of them are now commonplace.

The videos depicted what would become of our reality 25 years later so accurately that tablets, smart watches, GPS, on-demand entertainment, and more were all in there. Mind you, this was before many of us ever had a home internet connection.

The predictions were spot on because they weren't simply guesswork: This vision was rooted in the work of research scientists and engineers who were building what would become our reality today at Bell Labs, AT&T’s ambitious R&D operation. If you want to see AT&T's predictions yourself, make sure you watch the video embedded above, and as always, enjoy.
