Which do you prefer; automatic or manual transmission? If you are looking for a clear cut answer as to which one is better, you're likely to be disappointed.

The truth is there is just not one that is better than the other. Instead, both have their advantages and disadvantages. For instance, manual transmissions are cheaper to purchase and cheaper to maintain.

Historically, manual transmissions were noticeably more fuel-efficient than automatic versions. However, both cars today offer fuel-efficient options so that's definitely not a tiebreaker.

Could control be the deciding factor? Manual transmissions do provide more control over the car. That's what the clutch is for. But on the other hand, if that clutch breaks, boy, are you in trouble.

And automatic cars are so much easier to drive. The car does most of the work for you. It can also be argued that automatic transmission cars are also safer as you can keep both hands on the wheel all the time. No need to change gears means no need to let go of the steering wheel.

Have we confused you yet? Trying to decide which option is better? Then you need to get all the information. So watch our video for a complete breakdown of all the benefits and potential pitfalls of each type of car.
