Chemist Successfully Creates Transparent Wood
Scientists have been trying to make wood transparent for some decades now, and some have been even successful at creating translucent wood that's stronger and lighter than glass.
YouTuber NileRed has also previously tried his luck in creating one in an old project from 2018, but he wasn't quite content with the results since it didn't turn out to be as transparent as he wanted. In his latest video, he decided to give it another go; but this time, he attempted the project by following a formula from a paper that was published in 2016.
Since NileRed has a degree in biochemistry, the video can almost serve as educational material. There are actual demonstrations of the steps along with matter-of-fact explanations on why it works and why you have to do things in a certain way. Overall, it is 36 minutes packed with technical stuff, but it is presented in a simple fashion, which makes learning chemistry all the more fun.
Admittedly, his transparent wood is not as quite successful as this one, but still, it's worth a look. If you're curious to see the results, make sure you watch the video embedded above.
