Shipping container homes may not be as structurally sound as they may seem
What's the cost?
The concept of modularity is an appealing one, so it's not that surprising to see that shipping container homes have caught on. Homes made from shipping containers have been popular for some time now, with many people considering them "the future of housing in America". They've appeared everywhere, from reality TV shows to talks about housing policy, as well as Airbnb. However, while many people admire them for their simplicity, in reality, constructing one of these houses can be an extremely challenging endeavor. In fact, there are even some experts stating that shipping containers are not structurally designed to sustain additional points of load-bearing.
