Declassified Footage Shows F-16 Takeover When Pilot Passes Out
Historic Flatiron building has gone up for auction: Rare opportunity to own iconic landmark
The F-16 is one of the most prolific military aircraft of all time, but one of its coolest features has nothing to do with weapons. When the plane detects that the pilot has passed out or is otherwise incapacitated, the internal computer can take over flight of the plane to save the pilot's life. The system cannot land the plane, but it has saved at least 4 lives since it was installed in 2014, according to Popular Science.
