Let’s say that you were going to build a rocket engine, and you got it all planned on. How would you know that your design will work? Copenhagen Suborbitals, the world’s only manned, crowdfunded space program, answers this question, and it is, of course, the rocket engine test stand.
Rocket engine test stand is, as they say, where one of the most exciting and nerve-racking moments of rocket science takes place. This short 12-minute introductory video gives insight into how you design and use a rocket engine test stand.
To give you more information about the YouTube channel, here is how their description goes: “In the future, a volunteer astronaut will fly to space on our home-built rocket. We do this in our spare time, all the donations go to paying our workshop rent and buying materials. We are forever thankful to each of our supporters!” Exciting, right? You don’t exactly have people conducting amateur space programs.
In the video, they talk about rocket engine test stand design for their bi-liquid BPM100, which they claim is the world’s largest rocket engine built to be by a non-profit, crowdfunded organization.
