Have you ever watched a ship launch? The process is exhilarating to see as the great big ships are thrown into the water to get ready for their long journeys.

Ship launches are exciting as you get to witness firsthand the ships coming out of the shipyard and into the great sea or lake. There are three main methods of conveying a new ship from the shipyard to the water: the end-on-launch, the side launch, and the float-out.

The end-on-launch consists of the vessel sliding down an inclined slipway stern first. Will it land correctly and damage-free? You have to watch to find out.

The side launch is where the ship enters the water broadside. Sounds risky and yet boats manage side launches effectively all the time!

Finally, the float-out sees a ship floated by admitting water into the dock. Now that's a sight to see!

Have these descriptions piqued your curiosity? In our video, we bring you many exhilarating, scary, and turbulent ship launches so you can see them up close and in action. Watch how ships are pushed to water only to find their footing and get ready for their trips ahead.
