Electric bikes (e-bikes) are perhaps the invention of the century, enabling people to enjoy most of the benefits of biking without breaking a sweat. Moreover, they are a green alternative to commuting since they reduce fossil fuels, and on an unrelated note, congestion. They can be on the pricier side and are definitely more advanced than a regular bicycle; however, nothing can stop an avid DIY-er.
In this video, YouTuber Donny Terek builds a DIY electric bike that can reach easily 40 mph (65 km/h). What you'll see, however, is not just a DIY project that you'd see every day, it's a journey of actually building an electric bike from scratch with a high level of expertise. His execution is unbelievably clean and perfectly done, giving the video an almost meditative feel.
From upgrading his DIY spot welder to building a battery and installing the e-bike components, the video takes you through it all. He stated on his Instructables page that he had been planning this project for some time, and explained how he built it and how it performs in detail there, too. Enjoy!
