Lucid Air Tri-Motor vs. Tesla Model S Plaid: Setting a New EV Record
EV market has gotten increasingly competitive over the years, and Tesla has been on an unstoppable meteoric rise, with Elon Musk riding shotgun. However, the Tesla CEO might want to watch out since other brands have started to catch up.
A new video shared by Lucid shows the newly unveiled Lucid Air racing against the Tesla Model S Plaid prototype in Laguna Seca racetrack. In the very same place, Tesla had broken the fastest lap record for 4-door vehicles one year ago with a prototype Model S equipped with an early version of the company's tri-motor "Plaid" powertrain. The car had completed a lap in 1:36.55.
Now, the Lucid Air test vehicle completed the same racetrack in a whopping 1:33. YouTube channel The KilloWatts is the one who shared the race at Laguna Seca. As the witnesses of the race, they claimed they only succeeded in counting one lap time among several ones.
In the description box, they wrote, "It's very possible other laps were faster. Our primary objective was photography so this was 1 of only two full laps we recorded on camera. It just so happened to be the quickest one we saw."
