Nothing worse than having a fire burn out too quickly while camping. In life or death situations, loss of fire (and thus heat) can be devastating. YouTuber Doogly demonstrates how to mold a wooden log into a Swedish torch which will last all night. It doesn't require much aid beyond the initial phase.

In the video, you can see the log is cut with a chainsaw into two slits with three-fourths way down. This way, the formed vents allow air to feed the fire on to the end of the log. You can even use it to cook on or just enjoy while camping.
