Mechatronics Engineer Builds Gauntlet That Moves Like Waves
If you've ever played Skyrim, you'll most likely be familiar with the numerous armors and gauntlets you can use; and this one by YouTube user Will Cogley looks like it belongs to the city Markarth. Moreover, the mechanized gauntlet concept is sure to hypnotize you.
Calling this amazing piece his "little side project," Will Cogley, who is a mechatronics engineer, explains in detail how he made the project come to life by experimenting with new tools and materials. He talks about the mechanical design and the development process. The gaunt has a 3D-printed motor, 3D-printed hardware, and a mechanical linkage between the wrist and the forearm. As you'll see in the video, the scales open and close with ease since they are magnetically attached to the level underneath. In order to get the scales right, Will Cogley uses a Mayku desktop vacuum and explains that he made lightweight copies of the 3D-printed scales.
The prototype looks pretty amazing overall, but you can also see the gauntlet without the scales covering it in the video, too. Enjoy!
