During an exclusive interview with HBO, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk has said there is a 70 percent chance that he will travel to Mars on a future Space X mission.

The energetic entrepreneur said he is really fired up about recent developments at Space X that seem to have further motivated his potential trip.

When questioned if moving to Mars was an escape hatch for rich people, Musk outlined that going to Mars will actually be incredibly difficult, require a lot of hard work and that it obviously increases your chances of dying exponentially.

Musk likened the motivation of going to Mars to wanting to climb Mount Everest.

As something that could be seen as a personal challenge. He suggested that eventually, tickets to Mars will cost as little as a couple of hundred thousand dollars making the dangerous journey relatively accessible.

But if you have some spare change lying around Musk is very keen to make sure potential Mars explorers will need to be ready for hard work building the future base and that a return to earth isn’t guaranteed.

Musk has been ambitious about ‘making life interplanetary’ for several years now.  SpaceX says they are aiming for the first cargo mission to Mars in 2022, with a crewed mission following up in 2024.
