Numberphile Shares the Cat and Mouse Game
Numberphile is known for bringing us these cool videos of hard but fun-to-solve mathematics problems. He is back with this week's edition of the cat and mouse problem.
This problem is quite simple. A mouse runs into a pond where a cat cannot reach it. The only element given is that the cat can move four times faster than the mouse can swim.
The mouse can go anywhere in the pond because the cat cannot swim. But once it leaves the pond, the cat may catch it. The cat is sitting there stalking the mouse, waiting for it to exit.
The simple question is: Can the mouse escape the cat?
When analyzing it Numberphile finds that the pattern ends up repeating but there is a solution to this.
We won't tell you what the solution is except that Numberphile believes the mouse can escape. What we can tell you is that, it's a fun video that explores all the options and keeps you riveted as to whether the mouse will be able to escape the cat or not.
But don't take our word for it. Click on the video and watch and find out yourself!
