Preparing for the Future: Will Sentient Robots Deserve Rights?
Artificial Intelligence has come a long way in recent years. Autonomous vehicles and AI robotic companions have especially made the biggest improvements and seem to dominate tech headlines. However, will these improvements ever get so good they need rights? Will we ever have to provide our smart cars and robots with 'android' rights?
As the video points out, the need for rights comes from a human protection against harm. We have these rights to save us from various harms - physical and psychological. But if robots don't feel harm or hurt unless programmed, would they understand and value the rights given to them?
It's an interesting question, and while we're still decades away from having to answer it, it's always good to start preparing for the day when that question will need an answer.
