A Tesla Model X Beat A Lamborghini in a Drag Race, Setting a World Record for the Fastest SUV
The Tesla Model X SUV just seems to be getting better and better. Not only does it beat a bunch of sports cars when you compare its 0 to 60 mph acceleration power and quarter-mile capacity, it also doesn't guzzle down fossil fuels, because it's all electric.
Now it is really kicking ass by beating, on video, a Lamborghini Aventador in a drag race. Oh, and it also set a new quarter-mile record of 11.4 seconds at 118 mph at the same time.
The team from DragTimes pulled out their Tesla Model X P100D and Tesla Model S P100D to the Palm Beach International Raceway after being challenged to a drag race by a Lamborghini Aventador driver. The driver also happens to own a Tesla, so he wasn’t heading into this without some knowledge of the electric car's power.
In what we now know is an unsurprising win, the Model X beat the Aventador from the start. Though the supercar did catch up, it was not before the quarter-mile mark. While we have seen these kinds of performances before, what is astounding about the new drag record is that it could well be a record for the world’s quickest production SUV on a real world drag strip.
The Drag Times team say the Tesla was on a 78% charge at the time of this race, but are convinced they’ll get a better result with a 100% charge. So they plan on doing a re-run in the near future.
