It used to be that your home was considered high tech and advanced if it had a few television sets and a refrigerator. Boy, how times have changed!

Today's homes are considered advanced if they are smart and connected. What does that mean? It means that all appliances within the home communicate with you and with each other.

But did you know that one of the first examples of smart tech was released all the way back in the 1960s? It was called the ECHO IV and it was able to compute shopping lists, control a home’s ambient temperature, and even turn devices on and off.

Alexa may have been jealous of the ECHO IV but it was never commercially developed. Instead, the smart home tech market really began to develop around 2014. Talk about recent!

Since then the market has been on fire! Some experts even believe that smart tech is fast becoming all-pervasive especially with the advent of the Internet of Things.
