The Mandalorian's Maximum Peak Brightness Capped at 200 Nits Even Though It Is Labelled as HDR

Resident HDR expert Adam Fairclough analyzes the show on the new Disney Plus streaming service.

It's always disappointing when a product doesn't turn out to be as good as advertised. However, when it comes to electronics, only those with the proper tech-savvy have the expertise to notice when something is off. This is where analysis from real specialists comes in handy.

In this video, resident HDR expert Adam Fairclough analyzes The Mandalorian on the new Disney Plus streaming service. And what he discovers is rather disconcerting.

Despite being labeled as [HDR]/ [Dolby Vision], the show's maximum peak brightness is capped at 200 nits. For those less informed, The Mandalorian is a space western web television show that premiered on the Disney Plus channel on November 12, 2019.

According to Fairclough, the series has not received proper HDR treatment and does not deserve the [HDR]/ [Dolby Vision] label. Fairclough goes into a lot of detail to explain exactly why he has drawn this conclusion and why he believes it may even make people disappointed with HDR.
