The More You Know: How Fighter Pilots Use the Bathroom While Flying
It is one of those late-night YouTube questions that pop up in your head or in your recommendations: How do fighter pilots go to the bathroom while flying? In the video embedded above, you can watch a United States Air Force F-35 fighter pilot answer this question, specifically in an F-16 or F-35.
YouTube user Hasard Lee starts off by describing the cockpit, explaining how it is extremely small inside an F-16 and how it can actually be pretty claustrophobic. While these fighter jets are engineering marvels and are extremely capable, there isn't space to fit a bathroom in there, which is why toilet endeavors can be a bit of a pickle.
As you can imagine, for male fighter pilots, the solutions are pretty straightforward, but the same thing can't be said for women pilots, especially since such solutions are mostly designed with men primarily in mind. Thankfully, some new devices have been developed over the years to make the process easier, both for men and women.
