Segway has created the S-Pod: a self-balancing electric wheelchair that is a pleasure to ride. The chair is an egg-shaped vehicle with a maximum speed of 38km/h. It hasn't been designed for the outdoors. Instead, the vehicle is for enclosed spaces such as airports and malls. Don't let that fool you! It is still very nimble. It is controlled with a joystick on the right side of the seat and most who have tried it say it moves very swiftly. That's also because it is inspired by the geospheres in the film Jurassic World, the sphere-shaped rides that take tourists around the park.
It is a relatively simple vehicle with few features including a horn. A light strip in the front of the chair indicates the battery level and a few more lights on the back serve as turn signals. A tablet that comes out of the left armrest allows you to change the colors of these lights which is a pretty cool option. However, the most impressive thing about it is how sturdy it is, despite sitting on just two wheels.
It is still a concept product for now but is expected to go on sale in early 2021. This is great news as the S-Pod can especially benefit people with physical disabilities along with giving everyone a fun joyful ride from any point A to point B.
