Watch Aliens Occupy Our World in This New Awesome Short Film 'Rakka'
Sigourney Weaver is totally rad in Rakka, a terrifying and exhilarating new short film from Oats Studios. Directed by Neill Blomkamp, the sci-fi film is set in Texas in 2020.
The world is a dystopian, post-apocalyptic nightmare ruled by aliens. The invading species accelerate climate change by building methane pumps which cause all living vegetation to die and the oceans to rise. Most humans have been killed or captured but some remain elusive. The aliens use mind control to colonize the earth. They use some humans as hosts for them to more efficiently breed and actively hunt the few remaining ‘free’ humans.
The human resistance is led in part by what remains of the U.S army. Their leader is Jasper, played by Sigourney Weaver. She leads a team of humans that fight back against the aliens using typical guerilla tactics like bombings and IED’s.
Rakka follows life on earth from several viewpoints. We are also introduced to various characters like Nosh, a pyromaniac who makes ‘brain barriers' from scrap metal, to stop the aliens using their mind control powers on humans.
Oats Studio is the brainchild of Neill Blomkamp. He was looking for a way to stay creative in the film industry where sequels and franchises are the norm. The idea is to create a variety short films across a range of genres and eventually make the jump to feature length content.
If Rakka is anything to go by we are eagerly anticipating the next release.
