Watch What Happens When You Push a Tire Beyond the Speed of Sound

All it took was a 2.5-liter Toyota V6 with 200 horsepower, 180 pound-feet of torque, and some imagination.

However durable your tire is, there is always a limit. In this video by the Russian YouTube channel Garage 54, the mad mechanics we know and love show us what happens when you spin a tire faster than the speed of sound.

To accomplish this, they build a custom testing rig out of a 2.5-liter Toyota V6 with 200 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque that spins wheels at extreme speeds. The mechanics took their custom rig to a nearby shooting range for safety's sake and mounted a 235/40R18 tire, which can tolerate speeds up to 186 mph. That turned out to be a rather funny number when you think about the speed they achieved in the end. The mechanics say the tire reached a top speed of 828 mph (1,332 km/h), while, according to The Drive's calculations, the tire reached a maximum road speed of 789 mph (1,269 km/h). Regardless of which one is true, the numbers are still insane, and you should most definitely see it happening in the video. Enjoy!
