What Happens When You Open a Bottle of Liquid Nitrogen Underwater?
Now comes the fun part! What happens when you drop a bottle of the freezing-cold liquid nitrogen into a pool?
Before delving into the juicy part, the creator of this video, The Action Lab, have previously demonstrated what happens to liquid nitrogen when it's poured over the sea. The idea was to find out if it freezes the water.
It didn't freeze any of the moving waves. However, it sparked The Action Lab's watchers to ask him to see what happens when the nitrogen was opened up underwater, and not merely over it.
Liquid nitrogen is used for a variety of matters, from cooling computer systems, to medically removing unwanted skin such as warts or pre-cancerous cells. It's very cold, with a boiling point of -196 degrees Celcius.
You might imagine that by dropping an open bottle of the freezing liquid, it might turn the water around it into ice. The video demonstrates what happens, and we don't want to give it all away. What we will say, however, is that there are many bubbles involved.
