Smart glasses nowadays can do everything that smartphones can but are also hands-free. They effectively blend our field of view with the virtual world through a combination of displays, sensors, software, and internet connectivity.
They also boast a camera, speaker, and microphone. Unlike smartphones, they can even be controlled by eye-tracking. Newer models have waveguide displays that ‘bends’ the projected light in front of our eyes, allowing us to see a visual field in order to give us a better resolution, an improved field of view, and more clarity than ever before.
They can even feature augmented reality, or mixed reality, technology to assist us with everyday tasks by providing information about what’s in our line of sight. They do have some drawbacks however like the fact that they look bulky and not very aesthetically pleasing, they provide a limited field of vision and could pose privacy concerns.
So what are these issues plaguing smart glasses and can they be resolved? What new and improved technologies are upgrading the devices making them ever user-friendly? When might we see these products overtake smartphones in all features including taking phone calls? This video answers all these questions and more.
