This video shows and explains the amazing engineering behind the world’s first Continuously Variable Valve Duration (CVVD) engine, which is used in the 2020 Hyundai Sonata. Hyundai had recently introduced the new piece of engine tech that alters the way the valves operate.

It is especially astonishing since, until Hyundai Sonata 2020, no mass-produced engines have actually been able to vary how long a valve remains open corresponding to the engine speed. It's a purely mechanical system that boots both power and efficiency. Moreover, it allows flexibility based on the driver's current driving style. So how did Hyundai actually do it?

The answer to that question is something we won’t give away in this text, so you should probably just go and watch it. It is actually quite straightforward, and Hyundai’s solution to a good-old problem is nothing short of genius and very impressive.

Moreover, who doesn’t like watching a shiny, steel engine working like clockwork? With all the engineering-work in mind, it is almost like a treat.
