Woman Devastated After Discovering Succulent She Watered for Two Years Was Fake

The woman found out her succulent was fake when she went on to change its container.

Life can be hard. Often things are not what they seem. That's what one woman discovered with a plant.

A fake plant

This is the story of Caelie Wilkes who found out she had been watering a fake succulent once a week for two years. Wilkes shared her story on Facebook and it went viral.

In it, she described how she had lovingly tended to her plant for two years and how she even got defensive should anyone else try to water it. The plant's success had led her to believe she had quite the green thumb.

"I’ve had this beautiful succulent for about 2 years now. I was so proud of this plant. It was full, beautiful coloring, just an overall perfect plant. I had it up in my kitchen window. I had a watering plan for it, if someone else tried to water my succulent I would get so defensive because I just wanted to keep good care of it. I absolutely loved my succulent," said Wilkes, in a Facebook post.

The trouble started when she decided to change the plant's container for something more aesthetically pleasing.

A cute vase

"Today I decided it was time to transplant, I found the cutest vase, that suited it perfectly. I go to pull it from the original plastic container it was purchased with to learn this plant was FAKE. I put so much love into this plant! I washed its leaves. Tried my hardest to keep it looking its best, and it's completely plastic! How did I not know this. I pull it from the container, it’s sitting on Styrofoam with sand glued to the top! I feel like these last two years have been a lie," continued Wilkes.

Since sharing her sadness on social media, many have claimed her story is just a hoax. However, we can't help but believe poor Wilkes as no one would share something that embarrassing unless it was true.
